Veteran's Cemetery

Currently in Alaska there are two (2) Veteran's Cemeteries. One is located on the military installation Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), while the other is located in a remote location in Sitka. The JBER Veteran's cemetery is the most popular to utilize for military interments however, it poses a problem for loved ones to gain access to the military installation to visit the cemetery. The Veteran's cemetery in Sitka is located in an remote location not often ideal for travel or access to during inclement weather.

I will be proposing legislation to create a new Veteran's cemetery in the region of Fairbanks or in the Mat-Su Valley, where access will be easier by civilian and military populations. I will also work with the Department of Defense and local military installations to create a solution to allow families and loved ones easier access to those burial sites that may be located on military installations to avoid cumbersome processes.
